A River of Lions – The Deadliest Stream in Tindiret

image

Known to the locals as Ainopng’etuny, which directly translates from Nandi to “a river of lions” in English, is the most dangerous stream in Tindiret flowing across Meteitei, Maraba and beyond. The river is said to drown at least one resident of the area, probably a tarusiot every year. Residents say that at night, the heavy sounding stream at times in a year ‘whistles’ and when it does, a man or a woman drowns.
